Ricky Cheath’s Bio

Ricky Cheath is the current Market Leader at Movement Mortgage for MN, WI, and IA. Cheath also serves as an Executive Board member for Housing First Minnesota Foundation, is part of the Leadership Team with the Homeownership Opportunity Alliance, was the 2018 & 2019 Twin Cities Chapter President for the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), and served on the 2019 MNAR Diversity Committee. During his 18+ years in the financial services industry, Cheath has received honors as one of the top originators in the country, been the recipient of multiple outstanding leadership awards, regularly speaks to high schools and colleges students about the importance of financial literacy, and is passionate when it comes to helping bridge the homeownership disparity gap.

All of that aside, what makes Cheath different from many of his peers is his story. Cheath is a first-generation Cambodian refugee. He came to the United States with his family when he was just two years old, seeking political asylum. “We settled in Minnesota because a church in Janesville stepped up and sponsored my family,” he says. “They helped us in every way possible, and it’s because of their generosity and kindness that we were able to assimilate as quickly as we did.”

At Movement, we regularly talk about finding your “why.” For Cheath, his life story is what drives him forward. “The mortgage industry is more than just financing homes for individuals or families. To me, it’s about helping people achieve the American Dream of sustainable homeownership which creates stability and generational wealth,” he says. “The goal is ultimately to help families,” says Cheath. “I’m here to inspire, empower and grow our regional footprint so that we can continue to serve and strengthen communities across the Midwest. I can’t wait to show people how Movement is more than just a mortgage company.”

When Cheath isn’t leading his team at Movement, or volunteering at Housing First MN Foundation or one of the other organizations he’s passionate about supporting, Cheath can be found traveling the world with his wife, Patty and their 3 children (Kai, Bailey, and Xander).
